Double Face

Day 4 (prompt): Between the Lines by Sara Bareilles

She turns her face and smiles at them

But the pain is searing her within

She laughs and talks so casually

That no one else is able to see

The silent tears that flow within

The screaming voice that’s pounding in

Her head, her heart, her soul, her mind

That makes her want to give up and die

But that’s something she wouldn’t do

For that means she has given up too

She refuses to ever let it win

So she tries to shut the voice within

She does it spending all her time

Faking happiness all the while

As she cries those silent tears inside

But a smile is all she puts outside

  1. NJ this is so sad. Her hiding her feelings inside. I wish she had a good friend and a quiet place to cry, it would help her a lot. You can hide and smile for only so long, eventually your body finds a way to deal with it. Better to deal with bad emotions and hurt ones before she gets depressed or drinks way to much, way to often, or hits rock bottom in other words. Well written and evocative.

    1. She chose to write 🙂 And, I agree with you a hundred percent. It’s better to find a let out and deal with it rather than corroding on the inside. Thank you, Mandi 🙂 I’m so glad the point comes across.
