Break Free

The voices of innocence

wanted escape, escape

that never came

The screams of agony,

cries of pain, pounding fists

were confined within

Now those voices

turn to silence, broken hands

and parched throats

For they were never meant

to elude from, from

behind this hardened wall

  1. Your poem made me think of a prison in Manila where Filipinos were herded together by Japanese occupying forces in WWII. It was next to a river, and when the river waters rose, everyone in the cells drowned. The horror of it still haunts me.
